Who can enter art works for the Farley Arts Trust Awards & Exhibition and the Wonderfully Surreal competition?

Students studying visual arts at GCSE, A level or Level 3 Creative & Applied Pathways at state schools, colleges or homeschooled groups in East Sussex. One artwork per student may be entered.

Which schools or colleges may enter students' work?

All state schools and colleges located in East Sussex.

Who submits the entries?

The art teacher at the school, college or homeschooled group submits the entries.

What categories are there for the Farley Arts Trust Awards & Exhibition?

Painting, 3D Sculpture, 2D Mixed Media, Works on Paper, Photography, Textiles and Sketch Books. 

Are there themes for the Wonderfully Surreal competitions?

Yes, each time a different theme will be set. 

Are these projects open to homeschooled students?

Yes, they are if they are living in East Sussex and studying visual arts at the levels listed in the first question. The adult responsible for the homeschooling should contact enquiries@farleyartstrust.co.uk. 

What do i need to submit for each art work?

• Completed Artwork Form
• High-quality JPEG image (minimum 300 dpi)
• Statement of around 50 words written by student about their art work.

When is the closing deadline for entries?

This is usually towards the end of the summer term.  The exact date will be given each year in the full application details.

What happens If my work is selected for the Farley Arts Trust Awards & Exhibition?

Selected artworks are exhibited in gallery at Farleys House & Gallery.  Teachers and students will be given full instructions including delivery and collection dates in the application details. 

What do successful students receive in addition to an exhibiting opportunity and catalogue illustrating their artwork?

Every student whose work is selected for the Farley Arts Trust Awards & Exhibition receives a certificate confirming their participation. 

There are small prizes for schools and student whose work is selected in each of the seven categories. In addition several small bursaries may be awarded to help participating students pursue their artistic interests. The Trust will invite applications for these in years when they are available.

Surrealism Awards are given to two outstanding awards which demonstrate a surrealist approach.  These art works are displayed on public view at Farleys alongside works by many major twentieth century artists.

What happens if my work is selected as a winner in the Wonderfully Surreal competition?

For the Wonderfully Surreal competition 15 works are selected. The students' own photographs of these works are printed, mounted and framed by the Trust for public exhibition. In addition a catalogue is published illustrating the works of the winners and other participants. 

What is the Sylvia Tidy Award?

This Award is presented to a participating student whose work demonstrates an awareness of current issues, of personal or community concern.  This is awarded in memory of Sylvia Tidy who was a longtime supporter and Trustee of Farley Arts Trust.
